The most classic Eastern Orthodox cross for men is the eight-pointed design with three horizontal bars. While the eight-pointed cross holds significance, the Orthodox Church acknowledges the validity of all cross forms: four-pointed, six-pointed, and eight-pointed, with or without the depiction of the crucified Jesus. When selecting an Orthodox cross, it is advisable to avoid those closely resembling Catholic designs. Short prayers are often inscribed on the reverse side of Orthodox crosses, with “Save and Protect” being a common invocation. Other prayers, such as the Prayer to the Holy Cross or verses from the Psalter, may also be engraved.
